democrats were proud of how president obama performed. and they think the president has an advantage, a little bit ahead, but he has to close the deal. for a little bit of context on those numbers you rolled out there, restore our future did raise money over the course of the last two years. most of that was in the primary. month of august, we outraised restore our future by a considerable sum. there's probably a reason they're advertising right now and only in one state, which is wisconsin. i'm not sure what that reason s their donors are probably wondering what's the strategy to spend in wisconsin and also to have spent something like $9.6 million in michigan and pennsylvania that they've all but abandoned. >> i'll get charlie's response to that, but tell me how your fund-raising was today. >> pretty good. >> today was a pretty good day for us. >> not top one or two? >> it was a top five. i don't know about one or two. >> that sounds like it would be about fair. can you answer the question that bill put out there, charlie, about why the

it was do-over obama today. it was kind of like the guy who has all his come-backs five minutes too late, and he had all his come-backs on the campaign trail today, calling mitt romney a whole new person, different kind of candidate, and you saw a very much more aggressive president obama, and i think that's what you will see two weeks from now when he shows up at the next debate with romney in new york. >> jim, on the campaign trail, governor romney today more energized? >> absolutely. we were with him on his campaign plane during the day and as he got on the plane, he was smiling, he was laughing with his campaign staff. there was a spring in his step. there was an air of confidence in this campaign that i haven't seen in several weeks and in talking to senior romney advisor eric fehrnstrom, he said to me if this was a prize fight, they would have stopped the fight. that's how well they think mitt romney did. they're not going to be taking their foot off the gas pedal, i can tell you that the romney campaign c

obama is likability. if he is seen attacking people with zingers, which are completely unprofessional, completely unpresidential, i mean, this sort of street fight combative thing, that's not where he wants to be. i was talking to martin bashir before the show. he doesn't want to do that, and his entire life is wrapped around that, about not being combative in that way. he doesn't want to do that. that's his entire life wrapped around that. i mean, i also saw, you know, a guy who is leading. the likability is more important than winning this debate. i know i'm winning this thing. it's this dynamic we've seen a lot in las vegas or perhaps atlantic city when we get a champion and challenger. the challenger has nothing to lose and goes nuts and flings punches everywhere. what does he have to lose? i don't need to mix it up with you. i'm going it to win on points and layback. sometimes that strategy wins and sometimes it doesn't. >> it's always frustrating if you're a fan to watch it fully. >> it's bizarre. >
